Hawaii Ahihi Cove

Ahihi Cove is one of the best snorkeling locations on Maui. The bay is home to an abundance of marine life that has probably to do with the area is protected within Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve. It is illegal to catch fish here.
There is little sand Ahihi Cove because it is the region where the last lava flows on Maui in 1790. As Low running down Haleakala, it covered the whole region and has created a surreal, like the lunar landscape. Wear sturdy shoes when you come to Ahihi Cove because the lava rocks are sharp.

It may seem like a disadvantage that almost no sand here, but less sand in the water is actually a good thing when you want to snorkel as there is less sand to hide its point of view. Also, if you plan to dive to arrive early for best visibility.

Because the beach is quite isolated, there are no lifeguards and facilities. Pets not allowed, and because the area is protected, any withdrawal of marine life, coral or rocks also prohibited. The bay is a good place for a family picnic or just relax.
